As a young adult in Austin, I really enjoy the vibrant ☀️ and active communities here! People are looking to get involved in group fitness and build goals together. I joined two run clubs a week (Nike and Cooldown Running) and have met many friends. Sharing the miles I run at each run club motivates me to push and enjoy each run! 🏃♂️
There are over 66 run clubs in Austin locally and with social media, run clubs have been exploding as people from all backgrounds get active and go out for the run and stay for the community. Besides Strava and Instagram, it is hard to interact with others in the run clubs and runners are still building their loyalty to which run club they decide to run at. What started as a way for me to personally track my runs by creating NFTs with metadata on my run is growing into a platform to help connect runners.
Our project helps to bring people on-chain with NFTs from their run club as they build their following and group. Our vision is to revolutionize the running experience and allow runners to connect while showcasing their achievements to motivate each other. There are two types of NFTs we will focus on: Run Club membership and achievements. These membership NFTs have many use cases from allowing runners to participate in special events or get perks for their participation in building up the run club as original runners. The achievement NFTs allow a way to track attendance and can serve as a virtual medal for a 5k, a great way to bring some healthy competition to your fastest race! Our vision is to bring runners on-chain and engage with their community, building belonging and real results into their runs!
Users can earn unique NFTs based on their running achievements, which are securely stored and managed on the Base blockchain. The app leverages Pinata for IPFS to handle decentralized storage of media and metadata, and Foundry for developing and deploying smart contracts. We focused on this project to build on community engagement and real-world impact, making it perfect for the UNPLUGGED track in the buildathon.
